Nowadays, with work, career and family becoming major priorities in life, many things can become overwhelmingly stressful. An abundance amount of stress is never good for anyone, let alone a busy person like you! It’s time you start taking initiative and turn this negative energy and stress, into relaxing positive energy.

Well, now you might be wondering how? Yoga has been practiced for many years now. In the efforts to meditate and connect with one’s spiritual self, people in the ancient times, and even now for that matter, regarded yoga as a natural means of relaxation.

Deepak Chopra, a physician, a holistic health/New Age guru and an alternative medicine practitioner, prioritizes yoga and meditation above all remedies in dealing with stress. “At the Chopra Center, we define stress as our response to what is happening. It’s not the overdue bill, traffic jam, or fight with our spouse that causes stress – it’s our thoughts and the story we tell ourselves about an event or circumstance that create the emotional upset, racing heart rate, shallow breathing, and other symptoms of the stress response,” states Deepak. Deepak Chopra’s analogy for stress clearly proves that stress is the result of the way our mind deals with a situation. The mind plays a crucial role in the dealings of stress.

Mediation is a simple, yet powerful yoga practice that has been proven to uncover a sense of calm and inner silence that lies underneath all that noise and stress you uncover from work and family matters.

Practicing meditation and yoga can aid in stress reduction by:

  • Slowing your heart rate- The faster your heart beats, the more restless you become, which in turn could lead to stress.
  • Lowering your blood pressure- blood pressure is an issue for many people, which leads to major stress.
  • Slowing your breathing rate
  • Reducing production of stress hormones- These hormones, or cortisol, are what causes the stress. The reduction in the production of stress hormones will greatly benefit in stress management.
  • Reducing anger and frustration- Mediation provides great benefits for your inner “diva.” Meditation often involves the repetition of a “mantra” which in turn calms the mind as a whole. “A mantra is pure sound, with no meaning or emotional charge to trigger associations. It allows the mind to detach from its usual preoccupations and experience the spaciousness and calm within,” states Deepak Chopra.

So turn that frown upside down and get working on that yoga to relieve your stress and anxiety. There is always a solution for everything; and yours is right here! Have no fear and stress a little less; yoga is here to help!

  1. Good article. When asked whether we should meditate for half an hour, Ramana Maharshi replied: Your whole life should be a meditation. This is attained by practising present moment awareness – living in the Now,
